DIN standards are protected works under German copyright law. The reproduction and distribution of DIN standards for specific purposes are subject to special terms and conditions set by DIN Media GmbH. The use of DIN standards by active TUM members is governed by separate contractual agreements between the TUM University Library and DIN Media GmbH.

Terms of Use for Active TUM Members

  • Reproduction is permitted solely for internal, non-commercial purposes (science, research, and teaching). Reproduction refers to any use of a DIN standard that creates an additional copy in a directly or indirectly perceptible form, regardless of the method used, e.g., copying, printing, filming, transcribing, scanning, or data transfer.
  • Reproduction for training purposes at TUM is permitted; however, copies must be marked with an institutional reference, e.g., TUM stamp, and collected again after the lecture.
  • For inclusion in digital course reserves, proceed as follows: print the DIN standard, add a TUM stamp to the printout, scan the stamped copy, and upload the file to Moodle.
  • Any unauthorized reproduction, disclosure to third parties, or systematic downloading constitutes a legal violation subject to damages and may result in criminal liability.

Terms of Use for External Users

  • External users are only permitted to view and consult DIN standards. This is possible on research PCs in our branch libraries.
  • Reproduction of any kind, regardless of the method used, e.g., copying, printing, filming, transcribing, scanning, or data transfer, is not permitted for licensing reasons.
  • If you require a printed DIN standard, please contact your local bookseller or DIN Media GmbH directly.
  • Any form of reproduction or downloading constitutes a legal violation subject to damages and may result in criminal liability.

No Full Texts in Nautos

Not all standards searchable via Nautos are available in full text. At TUM, full texts are only available when separate license agreements have been concluded. The following standards are not available in full text via Nautos:

  • National standards, e.g., from France (AFNOR), the United Kingdom (BSI), or the United States (ANSI)
  • VDE regulations and DIN‑VDE standards: These are listed in Nautos; however, full-text access is only possible via the VDE Normenbibliothek.
  • IEEE standards: Access is provided through the IEEE Xplore database.
  • Withdrawn VDI guidelines: These are available in printed form only. Please inquire at the circulation desks of our branch libraries.
  • ASTM standards: These have no longer been licensed at TUM since 2022.

Additional Standards Resources

In addition to Nautos, we provide access to other portals for searching and accessing technical regulations and standards. Our services include:
