Self-Archiving
TUM members can make their published articles publicly available on mediaTUM as a secondary publication. This procedure is recommended by the TUM Open Access Policy. Explore what needs to be considered and how to upload your already published article to TUM's media and publication server.
Conditions for Self-Archiving
Please check with the publisher that first published your work if they will allow a secondary publication. The authors' contract signed by you will usually provide detailed information on your rights, e.g., with regard to self-archiving.
The SHERPA/RoMEO listings provide an overview of publishers’ self-archiving policies.
To secure your rights to self-archiving it is recommended to grant the publisher only simple, non-exclusive rights of use in future publishing agreements. More information can be found on the project's open-access.network website.
Special Conditions for TUM Members
These agreements between the TUM and publishers allow you to benefit from special conditions for self-archiving on mediaTUM:
- Oxford Journals: A post-print of your publication may be published after 12 to 24 months (depending on the particular journal) on mediaTUM. You must refer to the publisher's version.
- Sage Publications: You are entitled to add your article published in one of our subscribed journals in the publisher’s version on mediaTUM twelve months after publication.
Glossary
The following terms describe different versions of scholarly open access publications:
- Postprint: Version without the publisher's own formatting and logo. As a rule, the last version after the peer review process is to be archived with all changes. The Postprint should receive the DOI assigned by the publisher with the appropriate version statement.
- Publisher's Version: Definitive work published in a journal, which normally includes the journal name, publisher's name, and a DOI.
More information you will find in the Article Version Explainer.
