Courses
We support you and your students with a wide range of courses covering academic key skills. Throughout the semester, we offer sessions in German and English. These take place as webinars, in‑person courses, or Moodle courses.

And this is a special course offer to TUM lecturers: Copyright in Teaching Essentials
In the course Copyright in Teaching Essentials – Legally Compliant Use of Protected Works, we will discuss how to correctly use third-party content in your lectures and properly attribute it. You will gain insight into relevant aspects of German copyright law – both regarding the use of third-party works and the licensing of your own content. Avoid pitfalls and shape your teaching in a legally compliant and confident manner!
Course Modules for your Moodle Courses
We also make our course content on academic key skills in literature research, reference management, and citing available as Moodle course modules that lecturers can import into their own Moodle courses. At the end of each module, the acquired knowledge is assessed via an e-test, and a confirmation of participation can be automatically generated upon successful completion.

Media
The University Library offers a collection of more than 2.3 million printed and digital resources, including 2,700 databases, 150,000 e-journals, 290,000 e-books, and 100,000 textbooks.
Online Catalog TUM
Our online catalog TUM OPAC brings all resources together in one place. You can request, borrow, or access online not only TUM holdings but also millions of items from other academic libraries. Materials that are not available at TUM can be ordered via interlibrary loan.
Newspapers, Non-Fiction, Fact Databases
We not only offer TUM members a large collection of research literature but also current newspapers, non-fiction books, and fact databases:
- Newspapers and magazines, e.g., SZ Archiv | FAZ Archiv | New York Times | Economist
- Facts, statistics, surveys, e.g., Statista | OECD iLibrary | Nexis
- Standards and technical information, e.g., Nautos | IEEE Xplore | heise+
- Legal sources, e.g., beck-online | juris | Compliance Digital | HeinOnline
- Non-fiction books, e.g., on cooking, hiking, DIY (available for borrowing via TUM OPAC)
Borrowing & Online Access
- Print collections: Our branch libraries and textbook collections offer a wide range of print materials available on open shelves. These items can be borrowed directly at the circulation desk. In addition, you can request items via the TUM OPAC and have them delivered to the branch library of your choice. Ordered materials can be picked up at the circulation desk and returned later at any of our branch libraries.
- E-Media: Most electronic resources are restricted by paywalls. Using your TUM ID and the services eAccess or Shibboleth, active TUM members can bypass these restrictions and access e-media free of charge, 24/7 – whether on campus, at home, or on the go.
Course Reserves
Compile key literature and lecture notes for your students in a physical or digital course reserve. The course reserve is either set up in a selected branch library or made available via the course in Moodle.
Scan Services for Articles & Books
In addition to book scanners available in all of our branch libraries, members of TUM can use the following scan services offered by the University Library:
- dokumenTUM: Order scans of articles or book chapters from academic journals or books of the University Library’s print holdings.
- Digitization on Demand: Request digital copies of books from the University Library’s collection that were published before 1900.
Recommend a Purchase
If required literature is not available at the TUM University Library, you may recommend items for purchase. Subject librarians review each request and decide on a possible purchase based on available funds and the library’s subject acquisition profile.
