These rules of use apply to the lockers and carrels (individual work rooms) in the branch libraries of the University Library.
- The provision of lockers and carrels is a service offered by the University Library. Their use is free of charge. The user has no statutory right to provision of a locker or a carrel.
- Lockers can be used by registered library users. Carrels can be used by TUM students and TUM staff.
- Keys for the lockers and carrels can be borrowed at the circulation desk. Issue of the key is logged in the library account of the borrower. Reservations for lockers and carrels can be made by circulation desk staff; for carrels, an online form is also available on the University Library website.
- Only one locker can be used at a time in a branch library. Simultaneous use of lockers in different branch libraries is possible. If a locker is occupied at a branch library, no further locker can be reserved at that branch library – a reservation is possible at other branch libraries.
- The right to use the locker or carrel is not transferable. The key may not be passed on to third parties.
- The maximum reservation period is two weeks. Carrels may only be used during the opening hours of the branch library. The reservation period can be revoked if there are prevailing reasons (e.g. urgent building measures) or if the rules of use are not observed.
- Lockers and carrels must be treated with care and protected from damage and soiling. Before using the system, the user must check the locker or the carrel for any damage. Fixtures and fittings may not be removed from the carrels.
- In the event of a malfunction of the locking mechanism, the library staff must be informed. Unauthorized tampering is prohibited. Costs for damages caused by improper operation are to be reimbursed by the user.
- Perishable food and hazardous substances or articles must not be stored in lockers or carrels.
- University Library house rules apply in the carrels.
- Media from the University Library holdings not registered to a library account must be returned on the same day and may not be kept in the carrel.
- In case of suspicion of misuse of lockers or carrels or in emergencies, the University Library is entitled to open, check and, if necessary, clear these even in the absence of the user.
- The key must be returned to the circulation desk no later than the day of expiry of the reservation period.
- If the reservation period is exceeded, the user’s library account will be blocked after prior unsuccessful notification of the expired reservation period and a period of three working days to clear the locker or carrel.
- After the library account has been blocked, the locker or carrel will be opened and cleared by library staff. The items removed will be treated as lost property and provisionally stored in accordance with the German Civil Code (Articles 978 et seq.). Food will be disposed of immediately without any right to reimbursement. Media borrowed from the holdings of the University Library will be revoked. Any media found belonging to other libraries will be returned to them. Items found in open lockers or carrels or handed in from open lockers or carrels to the library administration will be treated in the same way.
- A flat fee for administrative expenses will be charged for clearing the locker or carrel and the return of the objects found. If keys are not returned within five working days of the evacuation date, the lock will be replaced.
- Loss of a key must be reported immediately to the University Library by completing the loss report form. The form is available at the circulation desk.
- The costs for the replacement of the lock are specified in the list of costs of the University Library and must be borne by the user.
- The University Library recommends that no valuables be kept in lockers and carrels. The University Library is not liable for loss or damage to private property.
- On reserving a locker or carrel, the user accepts these Terms of Use as binding.
