Preamble
These house rules apply to visitors on the premises of the University Library. They supplement the House Rules of the Technical University of Munich (PDF 479 KB, in German) and other Regulations and Terms of Use of the University Library.
- Behavior in the Library
- Other visitors must not be disturbed in the exercise of their legitimate rights.
- Smoking (including e-cigarettes), open flames, and the operation of household appliances are prohibited.
- Moving furniture is not permitted.
- Electronic Devices
- Phones and other communication devices must be set to silent mode.
- Phone calls and speaking participation in video conferences or seminars are only permitted in group rooms and webinar carrels.
- Eating and Drinking
- The consumption of any kind of food is prohibited.
- Beverages are only allowed in tightly sealed containers. These must remain closed and may only be opened for drinking. Beverages must not be poured into cups or other open containers.
- The consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted.
- Bringing Items into the Library
- Lockers are available for registered library users. Please observe the Terms of Use for Lockers.
- Access to the library may be denied to visitors bringing large or bulky items.
- Bags, suitcases, boxes, or packages may not be left unattended on the premises of the University Library. Otherwise, the library reserves the right to take security measures. Any resulting costs and possible damages must be borne by the person responsible.
- Bringing any kind of means of transportation (e.g., skateboards, e-scooters) is prohibited unless required for health reasons.
- Bringing Animals
- Except for assistance animals for people with disabilities, animals are not permitted in the library.
- Use of Study Desks, Rooms, and Clock Discs
- The branch libraries offer a number of bookable study desks and rooms. Please observe the Terms of Use for the Reservation of Study Desks and Rooms.
- When leaving a study desk or room temporarily, a clock disc – available in the branch library – must be placed visibly on the desk with the start time of the break set. The clock discs are available at the branch library. This requirement applies to both bookable and freely available study desks, group rooms, and webinar carrels, but not to study carrels or the presentation lab. For study carrels, the use of a clock disc is recommended for short absences. If no clock disc is displayed or the maximum break duration of 60 minutes is exceeded, other visitors may take the space. Items left behind may be set aside by others.
- Items may be removed and taken into custody by library staff if they are left on unattended study desks without a clock disc or on study desks at the time the library closes. Items taken into custody will be treated as lost property.
- The University Library assumes no liability for personal belongings or for data on electronic devices left unattended on study desks.
- Study desks and rooms may not be reserved for third parties.
- Advertising, Displaying Posters
- Advertising and information materials may only be displayed or distributed with the approval of the library management and only in designated areas.
- Filming and Photography
- Photo, film, television, and audio recordings of any kind may only be made in the library with the approval of the library management.
