More Visibility for Your Research

Publish & Read: Open Access at TUM

Wissenschaftlerin am Mikroskop

Starting in 2024, TUM offers new opportunities to publish your research results in Open Access. There are no personal costs incurred for you as the author.

Publication fees will be covered by TUM. The TUM Board of Management, the University Library, and the TUM Schools have joined to create the financial basis for this, enabling comprehensive Publish & Read agreements with scientific publishers and academic societies.

This means for you as a TUM member: Benefit from Open Access publishing without personal costs, advisory services provided by the Open Access team of the University Library, and online access to 150,000 journals.

Your Open Access Publishing Opportunities

In recent months, TUM has been able to conclude numerous new agreements or extend existing ones. At the beginning of the year, contracts with the following publishers and academic societies came into effect:

  • Elsevier, including Cell Press and The Lancet
  • Springer Nature, inklusive des gesamten Nature-Portfolios
  • Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
  • Oxford University Press
  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
  • American Institute of Physics (AIP)
  • American Chemical Society (ACS)
  • Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC)
  • KOALA Mathematik und Informatik
  • Open Library Economics
  • Taylor & Francis
  • Sage
  • Wiley

In addition, with TUM.University Press, the university’s own publishing house, we offer you a TUM-specific alternative for book publications and hosting of Diamond Open Access Journals.

TUM's Open Access Strategy

In a joint effort, the TUM Board of Management, the University Library, and the TUM Schools have laid the financial foundation for entering into comprehensive Publish & Read agreements. This ensures that TUM members will have free access to scholarly information, and the majority of papers can be published in Open Access. This is an important step on the road to the Open Access transformation in scientific publishing. The declared goal of the university management is to maximize the rate of Open Access publications at TUM by providing the best possible support to researchers.
