The Technical University of Munich participates in the nationwide DEAL contract with the scientific publisher Springer Nature. The agreement offers scientists at TUM online access to a large part of Springer Nature's journals and new, extended options for publishing their research results open access. This applies to articles published during the contract period.
The agreement includes the following key points:
- Reading access
TUM members have permanent access to about 1,900 Springer journals (including Springer Medical, Palgrave, Adis and Macmillan Academic). Not included are Nature journals, magazines (e.g. Scientific American, Spektrum der Wissenschaft) and technical journals (e.g. ATZ, MTZ). However, the University Library offers you access to Nature journals via additional licences.
- Hybrid Open Access
As a corresponding author at TUM, you are entitled to publish your scientific articles in Springer subscription journals open access. There are no personal costs for you – unless you agree on certain additional services, for which the publisher will invoice you directly. There are also restrictions for specialist medical journals.
- Gold Open Access
As a corresponding author you can also publish in pure open access journals from Springer Nature at no personal costs. In these cases invoices for publication costs in these approx. 600 journals (including BioMed Central journals, Scientific Reports and Nature Communications) are handled centrally by the TUM University Library.
Indicate your affiliation with TUM
In order to ensure that all publications can be clearly assigned to the Technical University of Munich, it is important that all TUM authors use the binding, standardised university affiliation. Please observe the requirements of the TUM Publication Guidelines for all your publication projects.
