Applied Data Management Seminar – Professional Research Data Practices in Projects

In the Applied Data Management Seminar, you will gain in-depth knowledge of research data infrastructure. You will develop tailored solutions for the specific requirements of research data management (RDM) in your field and learn to professionally manage RDM in practice, as well as support other researchers within a project or organizational unit in handling research data.

Topics

Training Objectives:

  • Learn to apply and communicate sustainable RDM measures
  • Write project-specific data management plans
  • Develop concepts for reproducibility and quality assurance of research data
  • Get to know the research data infrastructure of TUM and national initiatives, e.g., NFDI
  • Gain insights into key initiatives, projects, and developments in the RDM ecosystem
  • Share and analyze best practices

Methods:
Expert input, exercises, individual work, group work, discussions, project work

Schedule, Procedure, Workload:

  • Classroom Sessions:
    Every second Monday of the month from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
    Dates: 13 Oct 2025, 10 Nov 2025, 8 Dec 2025, 12 Jan 2026, 9 Feb 2026
    Place: Campus Munich, Meeting Room 2180 (Branch Library Main Campus)
    During in-person meetings, group work and short input sessions will be used to identify challenges in research data management.
     
  • Self-Study Phases:
    Between the classroom sessions, you will apply the acquired knowledge to your own field through self-study and project work.
    Workload for the winter semester 2025/26: approx. 60 hours
     
  • Digital Reflection Sessions:
    Once per month, fridays from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
    Dates: 7 Nov 2025, 5 Dec 2025, 9 Jan 2026, 6 Feb 2026
    Place: via Zoom, participants will receive the meeting link separately.
    In the online reflection sessions, you will discuss your insights and derive concrete recommendations for action.

Regular participation in the sessions, self-study, and project work is required to receive a certificate of participation.

Course language: English

Availability: 10 spots

Requirements: Course on Research Data Management Essentials or other proven experience
