New Publish & Read Agreement

Reading and Publishing: Elsevier, Cell Press, The Lancet

"Open Access Publizieren" lettering in front of book shelves

Since the beginning of 2024, TUM members once again have access to the comprehensive journal portfolio of Elsevier, including the brands Cell Press and The Lancet. Additionally, you have the opportunity to publish your research results Open Access without incurring costs as a corresponding author affiliated with TUM.

This is made possible through TUM's participation in the nationwide DEAL agreement with Elsevier, which was negotiated on behalf of the Alliance of Science Organizations and the German Rectors' Conference with Elsevier over a period of more than six years. For you as a member of TUM, the agreement offers the following benefits:

  • Reading access to around 2500 journals
TUM gains access to over 2400 Elsevier journals and 80 journals from Cell Press and The Lancet. Out of these, 660 journals are pure Gold Open Access Journals.

  • Open Access Publication Opportunities
From 1 January 2024, as a "Submitting Corresponding Author" at TUM, you can publish your articles Open Access in Elsevier, Cell Press, and The Lancet journals without incurring APCs (Article Processing Charges) for you personally. These costs are centrally covered by TUM. Further information

Expansion of TUM’s Publish & Read Infrastructure
To support the visibility of research in the best possible way, TUM is significantly expanding its infrastructure in the area of information provision and publication services. The TUM Board of Management, the University Library, and the TUM Schools have joined to create the financial basis for participating in nationwide negotiated DEAL agreements with publishers such as Elsevier, Springer Nature, and Wiley. With TUM.University Press, we also offer a TUM-specific alternative for publishing monographs, edited volumes, and Open Access journals, independent of commercial publishers.
