Book Release: The State of Design

drei Bücher übereinander gestapelt mit dem Buchtitel State of Design

The book "The State of Design", published by TUM.University Press, is now available in bookstores. The editors are Fritz Frenkler, Birgit Herbst-Gaebel, Michael Molls, Sebastian Stadler and Wilhelm Vossenkuhl. The electronic full text is freely accessible on mediaTUM.

Print edition    Electronic Full Text

The content of the book is based on the results of a symposium by the TUM Senior Excellence Faculty at the Raitenhaslach Academy Center in November 2022. Participants from academia and industry shed light on the topic of "State of Design" from their respective specialist perspectives and engaged in a discursive exchange.

The 29 authors shed light on the significance of design in the context of technological, ecological, social, and economic developments. The contributions highlight the necessity of interdisciplinary education, particularly at technical universities. A change of perspective must be achieved, moving away from a purely form-giving, aesthetic add-on at the end of a process or development, towards a decisive, driving component for the design of user-friendly and sustainable solutions.

The contributions are accompanied by greetings from TUM President Thomas F. Hofmann and TUM Emeritus of Excellence Michael Molls, as well as a foreword by designer Dieter Rams.

"The State of Design" has been printed on 100% recycled paper and bears the environmental label "Blauer Engel" (Blue Angel).
