Main Campus: Carrels and Quiet Reading Room closed on 16 December
Due to an internal event, the Quiet Reading Room on the 2nd floor of the Branch Library Main Campus will not be accessible on Tuesday, 16 December 2025. Study desks and carrels in this area will not be available on that day. Our First Level Hotline will be reachable only until 12:00 p.m.
The other areas of the Branch Library Main Campus will remain accessible as usual. All branch libraries are open regularly.
Overview of restrictions on 16 December 2025:
- Study desks in the Quiet Reading Room are not accessible or bookable.
- Reserved carrels cannot be used on this day. For the rest of the week, they will be accessible as usual.
- The First Level Hotline is available only from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Special Opening Hours from Christmas to Epiphany
Between Christmas and Epiphany, we are also here for you! At our campuses – in Munich, Garching, Freising and Straubing – at least one branch library will remain open. On the Christmas weekend and at the turn of the year, all branch libraries will be closed.
Please note the altered opening and service hours during this time. From 7 January 2026, our regular opening hours will resume.

Renovation in Weihenstephan
New Carpet for Group Rooms
From 1 to 19 December 2025, the carpet in the group rooms of the Branch Library Weihenstephan will be replaced. Therefore, the group rooms will be temporarily unavailable, and you may experience increased noise levels. All study desks and reading corners are available without any restrictions.

New Course
AI-Powered Literature Research
In our new course "AI for Literature Research Essentials – Optimizing Search Queries", you will learn how to meaningfully integrate AI-supported tools into your academic research. You will practice formulating precise search queries, combining modern tools with traditional methods, and realistically assessing the limitations of AI.
The course is designed for students and doctoral candidates who wish to expand their research skills. In addition to a solid theoretical foundation, the content is practiced and applied in a hands-on way through group work.
Course Topics:
- Potential applications of AI tools in the literature research process
- Principles of AI-based literature research tools
- Refining search queries with AI support
- Combining AI tools with traditional research methods
- Limitations of AI in academic research
