Stephen Abram Stephen Abram, MLS, is the immediate Past President 2008 of SLA and the past-President of the Canadian Library Association. He is Vice President Innovation for SirsiDynix and Chief Strategist for the SirsiDynix Institute. He has been VP of Corporate Development for Micromedia ProQuest and Publisher Electronic Information for Thomson. He ran libraries for Suncor, Coopers & Lybrand, Smith Lyons Torrance Stevenson and Mayer and Hay Group. Stephen has been listed by Library Journal as one of their first "Movers and Shakers", the 'key' people influencing the future of libraries and librarianship. He has been awarded SLA's John Cotton Dana Award as well as being a Fellow of the SLA. He was Canadian Special Librarian of the Year and Alumni of the Year for the Faculty of Information Studies at the University of Toronto. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Information Studies. He was President 2002 of the Ontario Library Association as well as sitting on the SLA Board of Directors as Director and Secretary. He gives over 90 international keynote talks annually to library and information industry conferences and writes articles and columns for Information Outlook, Feliciter, Access, Multimedia & Internet @ Schools, and Library Journal. He is the author of ALA Editions' bestselling 'Out Front with Stephen Abramâ'. His blog, Stephen's Lighthouse, is a popular blog in the library sector.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Jan Engelen Jan Engelen (°1945) has a PhD in Applied Sciences (Electronics Engineering) and is currently professor at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. He is in charge of teaching Electronic Engineering project work to bachelor students and Fiber Optics Communication to telecommunications engineers. His research is focussing on Electronic Document management and modern communication systems. He is specialised in the use of XML, metadata and current ICT systems and, more specifically, in their usability and accessibility for reading impaired persons (persons with a visual impairment, dyslexia or a severe motor handicap). Jan Engelen is leading the Research Group on Document Architectures (DocArch) within the Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT) of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. He has a wide experience with European research programmes (Helios-Handynet, Telematics Applications Programme, Copernicus Programme, Framework 4, 5, 6 & 7 Research programmes) both as project leader and as partner within projects. Jan Engelen is responsible for the work of his DocArch group within the EU funded USEM, STAND4ALL, eGovMoNet and eInclusion projects. His research group is engaged in several working groups of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Access Initiative. Since several years Jan Engelen is involved in electronic newspaper production, both in XML/Daisy and in audio format (talking newspapers, hybrid books). He is developing new distribution channels for these newspapers and is researching the audio-books boom, both from a technological and an economical perspective.
Martha Kyrillidou Martha Kyrillidou is Director of ARL Statistics and Service Quality Programs at the Association of Research Libraries. She is responsible for all aspects of the Statistics and Assessment capability at ARL which offers assessment products and services to the library community ranging from descriptive statistics to evaluative tools focusing on service quality improvements in libraries. Martha provides analytical support to libraries and other program areas within the ARL office and has widely disseminated assessment developments through a rich publication record. She co-chairs the biennial Library Assessment Conference and is an advocate for effective, sustainable, and practical assessment strategies. Martha has worked extensively on establishing new assessment tools for libraries, LibQUAL, MINES for Libraries, DigiQUAL, and ClimateQUAL, all of them part of the ARL gateway to library assessment tools known as StatsQUAL. Prior to her affiliation with ARL, Martha was at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Bureau of Research at the School of Education at Kent State University. Martha holds an MLS and an MEd with specialization in Evaluation and Measurement from Kent State University, and a BA in English from Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece.
Albert Poirot Albert Poirot, conservateur général des bibliothèques, est Administrateur de la Bibliothèque nationale et universitaire (BNU) de Strasbourg depuis janvier 2006. Il a été élu président de l'Association des directeurs et des personnels de direction des bibliothèques universitaires et de la documentation (ADBU) lors du Congrès de Pau de septembre 2008. Archiviste-paléographe – i.e. ancien élève de l'Ecole nationale des chartes (Paris) – il est l'auteur d'une thèse sur les avocats au Parlement de Paris à la veille de la Révolution française. Il a exercé plusieurs postes de direction (Bibliothèque centrale de prêt de la Haute-Saône, Bibliothèque municipale de Dijon) avant d'être nommé Inspecteur général des bibliothèques, fonction qu'il a exercée pour le compte des ministères chargés de l'enseignement supérieur et de la culture de 1996 à 2005. Aussi bien au titre de ses responsabilités associatives nationales qu'au titre de ses charges à la tête de la BNU, il est engagé dans les processus de recomposition du paysage universitaire français où il se fait le promoteur de la documentation et des réseaux d'information. Il est l'auteur de contributions relatives notamment à l'organisation documentaire, à la gestion des ressources humaines et au patrimoine écrit.
