Auckland

Options for independent touring with the city and surrounding region include:

Catch a ferry to Rangitoto Island and either climb to the summit or take the 4WD road train

Across the inner harbour from the city is the suburb of Devonport where you can stroll along the foreshore, do some shopping and have a coffee or a meal at one of the cafes.

For a more energetic day out, try the ‘Coast to Coast walk’

Close to Auckland is the bird sanctuary on Tiritiri Matangi Island.

Auckland’s best shopping is in the inner-city suburbs of Newmarket, Ponsonby and Parnell.
