The study tour destination is Waitangi, north of Auckland in the Bay of Islands. Waitangi, often described as the birthplace of a nation, is an historic site where a treaty was signed between Maori chiefs and representatives of Queen Victoria. The Treaty initiated a constitutional relationship with Great Britain and linked the Maori and non-Maori people of Aotearoa-New Zealand. At Waitangi, there will be an address by Evelyn Tobin, a member of the Library and Information Advisory Commission, and visits to the buildings in the Treaty House grounds. There will also be a stop en route at the town basin in Whangarei, the northern region's city, and a visit to its public library on the return journey, with dinner at Ascension Vineyard, Matakana. |

Dress: Comfortable and casual clothing. A light jacket and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. |
