Check-in

All online reservations for study desks and rooms require an on-site check-in. Please note:

  • Your booking confirmation includes a QR code, which you must scan at the check-in stations in the branch library.
  • Check-in must be completed within 30 minutes after the start of your reservation slot. Otherwise, the resource will automatically be made available for booking again in the reservation system.
  • When booking multiple time slots on the same day, please make sure to check in for each time slot, even if they are consecutive.

Terms and Conditions

Who can use and reserver study desks?

  • All visitors to the library can use study desks.
  • Additonally, TUM members can reserve selected places via the online reservation system [1].
  • Approximately one-third of the places are reservable; the rest operates on a "first come, first served" basis".

What are the rules for reservations?

  • Reservations can be made up to 4 days in advance; reservations for the current day are possible.
  • Each TUM member has a booking quota of 40 hours per week. With each booking, the quota decreases by the number of hours booked.
  • The booking quota is replenished every Monday at midnight. Unused hours are not carried over to the next week.

When does my reservation expire?

  • After 30 minutes in case of a no-show or forgotten check-in; expired reservation time will not be credited back to the booking quota.
  • When absent for more than 60 minutes or not using clock discs for break times.

Further details are outlined in the terms of use:

Terms of Use for the Reservation of Study Desks und Rooms [12]

What else do I need to consider?

  • Hogging and reserving places for others is not allowed.
  • Drinks in tightly sealable containers are allowed, but no food or alcohol consumption.

Additonal rules are detailed in the library's House Rules [13].

Clock Discs for Break Times

Do you want to take a break and temporarily leave your study desk? No problem, as long as you are away for no longer than 60 minutes and use a clock disc to indicate your break time. Clock discs are available in collection bins in all branch libraries and can be returned at the exit.

How it works:

  • Place the adjusted clock disc on your study desk or in your group study room.
  • Do not exceed the maximum permitted break time of 60 minutes; otherwise, other library visitors may move your belongings aside and use the space.
  • Tables and rooms without clock discs may also be reassigned.

The University Library assumes no liability for personal items left unattended.
