Internet

For internet access in our branch libraries, please use the library computers or the Wi-Fi provided bei the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre.

eduroam network: eduroam [1] allows scholars and students from academic institutions in Munich as well as guests from participating institutions [2] to obtain Internet connectivity across the TUM campuses. eduroam is Eduroam is in use at many sites worldwide. Your modified TUM ID (e.g. gu27cat@eduroam.mwn.de [3]) and your personal password suffice as login.

Detailed information on eduroam can be found on the LRZ webpages [4] (german only).

BayernWLAN: If you do not have an account for eduroam, you can use the open Wi-Fi BayernWLAN [5] as an alternative. Login credentials are not required, just connect with the network "@BayernWLAN". Please keep in mind that this network connection is not encrypted.

lrz network: You can use this network if you are a member of a Munich academic or research institution (e.g. TUM and LMU) which are part of scientific data network in Munich. It requires the installation of a VPN client and your TUM ID.

Detailed information on Wi-Fi can be found on the LRZ webpages [6] (german only).

For questions and problems the TUM IT support team will also be glad to help. You can reach them on 089 - 289 17 123 or via it-support@tum.de [7].

Wi-Fi in the Branch Library Main Campus

At the Branch Library Main Campus in particular, WLAN overload may result in slow Internet connections.

The LRZ is aware of the problem and is already working on improvements through the use of more and newer access points.

Please note the following tips when using the WLANs:

  • Activate the Wi-Fi only once you are at your workplace. This will prevent your device remaining connected to the often congested access point at the entrance.
  • Use eduroam-a, which sends on the less loaded 5GHz band. Newer devices support this band.
  • Move to less used areas in the library. You can scan the current utilization of the access points at: http://wlan.lrz.de/apstat/filter/unterbezirk/bb/ [8]. The second number in the column "usage by SSID" indicates the currently logged in equipment. The maximum number of users is approx. 100.

Library Computers

In every branch library, you will find several library computers with internet access. On the computers, you can do your research and access all our electronic media. All units are equipped with USB ports and have MS Word, MS Excel and MS Powerpoint installed.

As a TUM member (students and staff), you can connect directly to your personal LRZ network storage (LRZ Cloud Storage [9]) on the library computers.
