The Technical University of Munich participates in the nationwide DEAL contract with the international scientific publisher Springer Nature. The agreement offers scientists at TUM online access to a large part of Springer Nature's journals and new, extended options for publishing their research results open access.
The agreement includes the following key points:
- Reading access
You have permanent access to about 1,900 Springer journals (including Springer Medical, Palgrave, Adis and Macmillan Academic). Not included are Nature journals, magazines (e.g. Scientific American, Spektrum der Wissenschaft) and technical journals (e.g. ATZ, MTZ). However, the University Library offers you access to Nature journals via additional licences.
- Hybrid Open Access
As from 1 January 2020 (publication date), you as an author at the TUM have the freedom of choice to publish your scientific articles in Springer subscription journals open access without incurring additional costs for you personally. There are restrictions only for specialist medical journals.
- Gold Open Access
In addition, there is still the possibility to publish in pure open access journal from Springer Nature. As from 1 August 2020 (publication date), the billing of costs for publications in these approximately 600 journals (including Scientific Reports and Nature Communications) will be handled centrally via the TUM's Open Access Publication Fund and billed to your faculty.
For further information on procedures and overviews of the journals in which you may publish please visit the Springer Nature pages.
To ensure that all publications can be clearly assigned to the Technical University of Munich, it is important that all authors of the TUM use the binding, standardised university affiliation. Please observe the requirements of the TUM Publication Guidelines for all your publication projects.
