On 17 July 2026, TUM.University Press will publish the new open-access volume “Thomas Mann – In der Brandlandschaft der Demokratie”. The book concludes the collaborative project Thomas Mann – In der Brandlandschaft der Demokratie. Leben. Politik. Gegenwart., launched in 2025 by the TUM Center for Culture and Arts and the Thomas Mann Forum Munich to mark the 150th anniversary of the writer’s birth. Bringing together perspectives from academia, culture, and public life, the publication explores Thomas Mann’s commitment to democracy and reflects on its continuing relevance today.
The volume is edited by Dirk Heißerer, Felix Mayer, Matthias Stuber, and Eckhard Zimmermann. Contributions include essays by Frido Mann, Ursula Münch, Winfried Nerdinger, Hans Rudolf Vaget, and Sebastian Hansen.
