Feature Update

More Flexible Metadata Assignment With TUM DataTagger

More than 1,200 users already document their research data in TUM DataTagger: 500 metadata templates are currently used across more than 300 projects. The latest update enhances metadata templates, making them even more user-friendly and efficient.

The feature update of TUM DataTagger v1.3.0 Aquamarine enables even more flexible handling of research data documentation. The tool’s key feature – simple metadata assignment – now offers additional benefits for flexibly tagging individual files, entire folders, or whole projects with metadata:

  • Edit and extend existing metadata templates
  • Changes to templates are automatically applied to already tagged files
  • Apply templates to individual files
  • File-specific metadata complements project- and folder-level documentation
  • Bulk editing and population of metadata fields
  • Delete uploaded files within 24 hours if they are not used

Since April 2025, the TUM DataTagger has been part of TUM’s research data management infrastructure. In addition to streamlined metadata assignment, the tool supports efficient collaboration and secure data storage. The open-source software developed by the University Library is tailored to the specific needs of TUM researchers and continuously improved through close user feedback.

A support team from the departments Research Data Services and Library Technology offers regular course sessions with hands-on guidance for effective collaborative research data management and invites to peer exchange.
