Changing the paradigm: Libraries, Education and Networking

In modern universities, the next 25 years will see massification, technology, flexibility, and new disciplines drive pedacogical change. The lecture-transmission of rapidly outdated content will continue to give way to a focus on the generic attributes required by students for lifelong learning and employability. Increasing workloads on university teachers will encourage a greater acceptance by them of the disaggregation of teaching. In the information age, librarians have a critical responsibility to contribute to that disaggregation of teaching and the development of information literate students. This will require them to translate their success in local, national and international networking to the broader educational arena.
